If I Stay & Where She Went by Gayle Forman | | Book Review

Yes, I jumped on that band wagon after If I Stay came out in theaters.Firstly, the movie was wonderful. It was tear jerking and there was a lot of smiles throughout the movie. But we're not going to talk about the movie, we're going to talk about the series. Brace yourself, this is going to be a long review!

"Goodreads Description:

Just listen, Adam says with a voice that sounds like shrapnel.

I open my eyes wide now.
I sit up as much as I can.
And I listen.

Stay, he says.

Choices. Seventeen-year-old Mia is faced with some tough ones: Stay true to her first love—music—even if it means losing her boyfriend and leaving her family and friends behind?

Then one February morning Mia goes for a drive with her family, and in an instant, everything changes. Suddenly, all the choices are gone, except one. And it's the only one that matters.

If I Stay is a heartachingly beautiful book about the power of love, the true meaning of family, and the choices we all make. "
This book isn't something I would have picked up two years ago nor is it something I really wanted to see in theaters. The main reason I watched the movie is because my dad was so excited about it and told me I needed to watch it. So, I did and I will never regret and I will never regret reading this book either.

The thought process Gayle Forman went through to make sure the music was right for each character was perfect. She gave them so much personality and so much depth that it was hard not to love the characters. Teddy was so lively and adorable, Mia's parents were hilarious and understanding, Kim was the best friend Mia could have asked for, and Adam had so much emotion and love for Mia. This book was so beautifully written that it's hard to say anything bad about it, so I'm not going too.

YA Fiction

"Goodreads Description: It's been three years since the devastating accident . . . three years since Mia walked out of Adam's life forever.

Now living on opposite coasts, Mia is Juilliard's rising star and Adam is LA tabloid fodder, thanks to his new rock star status and celebrity girlfriend. When Adam gets stuck in New York by himself, chance brings the couple together again, for one last night. As they explore the city that has become Mia's home, Adam and Mia revisit the past and open their hearts to the future - and each other.

Told from Adam's point of view in the spare, lyrical prose that defined If I Stay, Where She Went explores the devastation of grief, the promise of new hope, and the flame of rekindled romance."

This book started out slow for me and took me a few chapters to get into it. I like how it was from Adam's point of view. However, overall, the book upset me. Not in a "oh this book is terrible" kind of way but the fact that they didn't stay together made me upset. I knew from the description that they didn't stay together, but I wanted them to be together. I cried a little bit throughout this book, not even gonna lie. Adam's grief hit me hard, because I think we've all been through that kind of loss and it was just so emotional seeing it from his side. Forman did a wonderful job at expressing that grief through text and it made me remember any past grief that I, personally, have been through. I think that's why this book was tough for me. However, I don't like how it ended. I know it was just leading up to them getting back together, but I loved their relationship and I would have liked to see more of it. Maybe that's just me, but I wish we could fast forward into the future where they have kids and such.

So, I have a Goodreads account and if anyone would like to add me to see what I'm currently reading or what I want to read, come and join me!
