Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs | | Book Review

Am I the last one to know that they're turning the first book into a movie!? HOW DID I NOT KNOW?! Please tell me this is real!

So, obviously I love this series...

Series: Miss. Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children#1

Date Published: June 7th, 2011

YA Fantasy/Dark Fiction

"Goodreads Description: A mysterious island. An abandoned orphanage. A strange collection of curious photographs.

A horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography."

In all honesty, if you haven't heard of this book yet, where have you been? The cover is not only intriguing but the description is also very interesting. This book is unlike any book I've ever read, the plot was interesting, and the photos were brilliant. I mean, come on, they're apparently making a movie about it?!

This book was published in 2011 and focuses on a boy named Jacob. Jacob is on this adventure to learn more about his recently deceased grandfather and what he learns is nothing like he ever expected. The world he is brought into is not only intriguing, but so beautifully written that you can picture every wonderful but strange thing Jacob comes across. Jacob never knew what he was getting himself into, just knew he needed to know his grandfather's secrets.

I'm going to be real with you, the photos and the cover are what made me want to read this book. I have nothing but positive words to say about this series, in general. I didn't know if I would like this book in the beginning mostly because it seems like it would be more of a children's book, but the children in the book are clearly not children anymore.

So what did I think this book was going to be about? Ghosts! I literally thought he was going to go this orphanage where his grandfather had lived and he was going to discover the ghosts of past children. Which would have been fine, however, I think I like the idea of the real story.

But, I don't want to give too much of it away! So, go read this book and let me know what you thought about it! Also, I have read Hollow City from this series and I will post the review for that book soon!

If you have read the book, let me know if you want me to go into detail about my opinions on spoilers and maybe i'll post a review with spoilers!
